Students Believe ChatGPT is More Effective than Tutoring Sessions, Says Intelligent.com Survey
A recent survey conducted by Intelligent.com, a trusted resource for online degree rankings and higher education planning, reveals that students and parents believe studying with ChatGPT is more effective than tutoring sessions. The researchers collected responses from over 6,000 individuals, including both high school and college students as well as parents of younger students.
Survey Results: ChatGPT vs. Tutoring Sessions
Among the high school and college students who have studied with both ChatGPT and a tutor this recent academic year, 85 percent stated that studying with ChatGPT is more effective than studying with a tutor. Additionally, the report found that 96 percent of parents of school-aged children believe studying with ChatGPT is better for their children compared to tutoring sessions.
Moreover, the survey indicated that 39 percent of student respondents and 30 percent of parent respondents have fully replaced tutoring sessions with ChatGPT. Students who have switched to ChatGPT reportedly improved their grades, with 95 percent of student and parent respondents saying their or their children’s grades have improved since studying with ChatGPT. The most common subjects where respondents replaced tutoring sessions with ChatGPT are mathematics and “hard” sciences such as chemistry and biology.
Methodology
The surveys were commissioned by Intelligent.com and conducted online by the survey platform Pollfish from May 2 to 10, 2023. Over 6,000 participants in the United States completed the full surveys.
