Google’s Bard AI updates with fact-checking and more features to catch up with rival ChatGPT

Google’s AI Chatbot Bard Expands Functionality to Include Fact-Checking and Personal Data Analysis

Google announced on Tuesday that its generative artificial intelligence chatbot, Bard, now has the ability to fact-check its answers and analyze users’ personal data in order to provide more accurate and tailored responses. This marks a significant expansion of Bard’s functionality, as it previously lacked the capability to understand and execute prompts, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Google’s Battle for AI Supremacy

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, is currently engaged in a battle for supremacy with Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT. As one of the fastest-growing consumer applications globally, ChatGPT is ranked among the top 30 websites in terms of visitor numbers. In comparison, Google’s Bard has been trailing behind. In August alone, Bard’s website received 183 million visits, just 13 percent of ChatGPT’s total, as reported by website analytics firm Similarweb.

Introducing Bard Extensions and Personal Data Integration

To catch up in the rapidly evolving AI space, Google has introduced Bard Extensions. Users can now import personal data from other Google products, allowing Bard to search files on Google Drive and Docs and provide personalized responses. Additionally, users can ask Bard to summarize the contents of their Gmail inbox. The new functionality also enables Bard to retrieve real-time information from Maps, YouTube, Hotels, and Flights. Users can upload images using Google Lens, receive image-based responses, and modify Bard’s responses to be more professional or casual, depending on their preference.

Expanding Data Sources and Collaboration with External Businesses

For the time being, Bard users can only access information from Google’s own apps. However, Google has expressed its intention to collaborate with external businesses to integrate their services with Bard. This move will further enhance Bard’s capabilities and provide users with a wider range of data sources to draw from.

Google’s 25th Anniversary and the Future of AI

As Google approaches its 25th anniversary on September 27, the company is gearing up for another major technological shift. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, emphasized Google’s mission to organize and make the world’s information universally accessible and useful. Pichai also highlighted the transformative potential of AI, describing it as a fundamental rewiring of technology that accelerates human ingenuity.

AI Integration Across Google’s Popular Services

In recent months, Google has been integrating AI technologies across its portfolio, including popular services like Gmail, YouTube, and the Android operating system. These AI-powered enhancements aim to provide localized products and regionally relevant content, reaching a broader consumer base. Pichai stated that 15 of Google’s AI-driven products are used by over half a billion individuals and businesses, while six of these products have over 2 billion users.

Bard Goes Arabic and Global

In July, Google launched Bard in Arabic, allowing Arabic speakers to leverage their creative potential and boost productivity. Furthermore, Google has announced the establishment of a Cloud setup in Doha, which will serve as part of a global network spanning more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

Editor Notes

Google’s expansion of Bard’s functionality to include fact-checking and personal data analysis is a strategic move in its battle for AI supremacy with ChatGPT. By improving Bard’s capabilities, Google aims to bridge the gap between its chatbot and its competitors. The integration of personal data from Google products enhances the user experience and provides more accurate and tailored responses. With AI playing an increasingly significant role in Google’s services, the company is well-positioned to keep innovating and drive technological advancements.
